Breakfast!!!!

I'm guilty, we woke up about 15 minutes ago, so I haven't actually eaten here yet. We chose to go to The Waffle Window today. I think I am going to eat the waffle above. It is Nutella and banana on a waffle. I will give you an update on the tasty-ness of this place. You can check out the menu HERE. Happy Sunday!

Food Carts

Food Carts are taking over Portland! People are loving them because they are mobile. A lot of the carts are using Twitter and they will "tweet" their location for the followers to come eat at their cart. Other carts are part of an outdoor food court. It is such a neat idea and is no longer considered a "roach coach". Justin and I want to start trying one a week until we tackle all of them (there are over 150 in Portland). Sunday we are going to try one called "Waffles & Coffee" for breakfast.
Here is the website that lists all of the carts in town....

Good Night!

I went to Target today and found small dog clothes for $2.50 each. I got Jetson a striped sweater and a puffy coat with a hood. As a joke to Justin I found p.j.'s too. I put Jetson in his jammies and sent him out to say "good night" to Justin.

OHS Telethon

Thanks Mom & Justin for your donations!! They aren't done tallying the donations yet but so far they have raised just over $260,000! The goal was $230,000, that is so cool that the goal was exceeded by that much! I had a fun time answering phones. It would get pretty loud in there but it was well worth my time and I plan on participating next year too.

I cut my hair!

What do you guys think?? I like it, I think I am already used to it. Ps THE TELETHON IS TODAY!!!! yay!

Another hat!

I love this hat~ The button is engraved with an anchor. It is just too cute. But, it's not for me. I will be giving this to Justin's sister Angela tomorrow for her birthday/Christmas present. I may just have to make a similar one for me to wear. hehe.

Hoooooorrayy!

I have told some of you about a serial bank robber that has committed armed robbery in Oregon and Washington. He had been robbing banks for about 2 months. Being a bank teller, it was always a constant worry that this man would come in to my work and rob me or a co-worker. He did rob one of my banks other branches on Oct 2nd.
This past friday the 9th, he was caught!! I pasted the story below..

PUYALLUP, Wash. - A man suspected of being the notorious "River Rat Bandit," who has committed at least 18 armed robberies from Oregon to the Puget Sound, was arrested in Pierce County after he was identified through a fingerprint, police said.

An accomplice also was arrested in Portland, Ore., after he was implicated by the suspected bandit.

The River Rat Bandit is believed to be responsible for at least 18 armed robberies of banks and check-cashing businesses from late July until early October from Portland, Ore., to Kent, netting an estimated $100,000.

In most of the bank robberies, the robber has displayed a black handgun and demanded cash. In several cases he leaped onto or over the teller counter to reach the money.

Police gave him the "River Rat" name because the robberies have taken place on both sides of the Columbia River. They say he is a 32-year-old Bonney Lake man with ties to the Portland area. His name was not immediately released.

Two of the robberies and one attempted robbery took place in Puyallup.

On Friday, detectives identified a fingerprint from one of the Puyallup robberies and staked out a residence near Bonney Lake that was associated with the suspect.

Surveillance units spotted the suspect at about 7:45 p.m. Friday as he arrived at the residence in a vehicle belonging to his girlfriend.

A Pierce County SWAT team apprehended the suspect on two arrest warrants for three counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery as he was about to leave the residence in a vehicle at about 9:15 p.m.

He was later booked into Pierce County Jail.

During questioning by detectives, the suspected bandit implicated a possible accomplice who lives in the Portland area.

On Saturday afternoon, officers followed the suspected accomplice as he drove from Vancouver, Wash., to Portland. He was arrested without incident near NE 138th and Halsey on an arrest warrant for five counts of robbery.

The suspected accomplice is a 35-year-old Portland man and is currently being held in the Multnomah County Jail.

Joining the Puyallup Police Department in the investigation were the FBI, the Auburn police, the Bonney Lake police, the Clark County Sheriff's Department, the Kent police, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, the Portland Police Bureau, the Puyallup tribal police, the Vancouver, Wash., police, Metro SWAT team and Pierce County SWAT team.

Oregon Humane Society Telethon

On Sunday October 18th I will be one of twenty-six people volunteering to answer phone calls and accept donations for the Oregon Humane Society Telethon. It will air on our version of ABC (Katu) from 1p-5p. I get to bring one of my dogs with me to the telethon. I think I will be bringing Gemmy.
Last year, the telethon raised about $220,000.00! The goal this year is $230,000.00. OHS found homes for 9,229 animals in 2008.
I am excited to participate for this cause. You may even seen me on TV (if you got Portland channels, lol)

Labor Day Weekend w/Stephanie

Last weekend I went to Pleasanton, California to visit my best friend of 21 years. Steph has a 6 1/2 mo old baby named Sean that I hadn't seen since he was a few weeks old.
Steph and I got pedicures (thanks for the treat Steph). We also went to about 4 different yarn stores in 3 days. Steph learned how to knit a few months back. She is really good and has completed a lot of projects, it is really fun to share my favorite hobby with her. We went to a yarn store in San Francisco called Imagiknits. It was huge! Floor to ceiling yarn- two rooms of it! After we made our purchase and came out of the shop smiling we headed to dinner. We ate at Plant Organic Cafe where I had the best panini with mozzarella, tomato, & pesto basil.

Sunday we hung out for most of the day knitting with our "souvenir yarn" from San Francisco. Around dinner time we headed to the city Walnut Creek and ate at the San Francisco Creamery Co. a restaurant known for good food and large sundaes. I had a sundae called "Brown & white" it had two large scoops of ice cream (coffee and vanilla) hot fudge, marshmallow cream, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry. It was SO good. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish it. I was full from dinner.

I had a great weekend, it was so nice to see Steph, Sean, & Justin.
A special thanks to Steph and my Justin for purchasing my plane ticket. Thank you thank you!

Football Cupcakes!

Justin is very excited about opening day of football and months of football ahead of him. I don't love football but I have learned to accept that this is something he loves. To show my support I made him football theme cupcakes. It's chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese and milk chocolate frosting.

Cable Knit Hat

I finished my second knitted hat. I used yarn that I bought at the Coast in May. I called it my "souvenir yarn" so I need to make something special for myself. This is by far the most intricate thing I have knitted. It took about a week and half to make.

Dog Show

Justin and I took Radio and Gem this past weekend to the Sammamish Kennel Club Dog Show in Redmond, WA. Irene, the woman we got our dogs from was going to be in the show with a few different English Bull Terrier. Irene was kind enough to share her hotel room with us so we could have a cheaper rate. We drove up Saturday night and joined Irene at a BBQ for the Puget Sound Bull Terrier club was gathering. At the BBQ there was a silent auction being held with all Bull Terrier memorabilia. All proceeds from the auction went to support the Bull Terrier Club.

The next morning we got up really early to go to the show. It was so fun! It was a show with all the breeds, not just Bull Terriers. It great to see all the different dogs and their elaborate haircuts. There were a lot of booths selling dog toys and pet supplies. In one booth there were 3 racks of dog toys and on the top rack were three real dogs! There was a Norwich Terrier, a Jack Russell, & a Scottie Dog. Justin melted when he saw the Scottie, he loves them. Above is the picture of him with that cute little dog. The three dogs were owned by the shop owner.
The weekend was a blast. We were home by 4 on Sunday. Just enough time to unpack, relax, and get ready to start work again the next day.

Our dogs were pooped on the way home!

oops, Post Office

I kinda collect Post Office comics. I uploaded the wrong picture. Justin's job has not changed uniforms to a kilt, however that would be pretty funny. Here is the real comic explaining the changes in the Post Office.

Post Office

This is what Justin's job has come to, I showed this comic to Justin and he totally agreed.
Hopefully, Justin only has one more year in the Post Office before enrolling in nursing school. After two years of nursing school, he will be Justin Britton, RN. Yay! Nurse Justin!

Flashback Friday!

These pictures are from about 5 or so years ago when I was in make-up school. In Special FX class, I learned how to make bruises, burns, scabs, scars, you name something gruesome I could do it. The pictures are just a few examples of Special FX makeup I did.

The monster hands, however, are just funny!

Finished!

I finished Matina's scarf yesterday on my lunch break! Feels nice to have it done 2 days ahead of schedule.
What do you guys think? Can you see the "Charlie Brown" zig zags in the pattern? If any of you are knitters and want the pattern I will gladly send it to you.

Weather or not?

Tuesday, July 28th-Monday, August 3rd
Wowzers! You'd think I was still living in Southern California with these temperatures. I love warm weather but unfortunately we don't have central A/C in the house. At night it has been around 87-89 degrees inside. It has been really crappy sleeping. Last night I slept with one of those squishy ice packs on my neck. That did help a lot.
In the evenings we have been going in the kiddie pool and hanging out in the back yard until the sun goes down. The sun doesn't go down until a little after 9pm around here. It's pretty nice to have that much daylight.
Anyways, hope the rest of you are staying cool. Drink lots of water. :)

Flashback Friday!!

This photo is from about 2 yrs ago. I was doing free-lance makeup in Portland. One of the local designers asked me to do makeup for their runway show as well as be one of the models for the night. I had a lot of fun. I had never walked a runway before. I was very nervous and I probably walked as fast as I did down the aisle at Stephanie's wedding. Either way, I had a good time. :)
p.s. A hairstylist put hair extentions on me. I think my hair chin length at the time.

Stephie!!

I get to go see Stephie at her new place in Pleasanton, Ca over Labor Day weekend. I am sooooo very excited! I get to see how big baby Seanie has gotten. We are going to go to San Francisco for an evening. Woo hoo!
Stephie is taking knitting lessons right now. I am going to bring my stuff so I can show her a few different techniques. How cool is it that my best friend of 21 years knits too?!

Busy Bee

I have been a busy little bee this week. Everyday after work I have been cooking dinner from scratch from a recipe book I got from our friend Monica. It is a Betty Crocker Vegetarian cook book. Lots of great recipes. I am usually a tad lazy at cooking. I enjoy it, but starting for a box is so much quicker. Sunday, I sat down and planned out meals for the whole week, then headed to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients. This week, I feel fulfilled and proud with my new creations. Today I made from scratch, blueberry muffins with the blueberries I picked at the farm this past weekend. They came out great!
Besides cooking, I have been knitting a lot. I am finishing up a scarf for Matina. I need to finish it by next Thursday when we go out to dinner with her and Jon. I am pretty sure I am on track to do just that. I am knitting on lunch breaks and after work until bed time. After I finish the scarf, I will be starting on a pink heart baby blanket for my friend Krystyn's little girl. She isn't due until November. I have time, I would like to try to finish it by September just so she has it in plenty of time and so I don't stress about getting it done in time.
Alright, I better stop blogging and start knitting!

In Loving Memory

My sweet sweet Joey was put to rest Saturday afternoon. He was an amazing cat and I am so thankful that he was there to keep my Mama company after I moved. The two of them had an amazing bond. That little guy was very spoiled and had the most fulfilled life. I will miss you my Joey.

Stuffed Crust Pizza

I made stuffed crust pizza from refrigerated bread dough and I am darn proud of it :)
Our pizza was topped with olives, mushrooms, & soy pepperoni.
The "stuffed" part was string cheese cut length wise and then folded into the crust. I am eating it right now and it is darn tasty.

I can't even think of a title for this...

My friend Matina and her husband Jon have a combined 14 years in Christian Ministry. I met her in 2007 when I worked at 24 hr Fitness and Matina & Jon would come in the mornings to work out. After seeing her a few times a week and recognizing we were around the same age, we planned to hang out. I think the first gathering was her 2007 Festivus Party (from the show Seinfeld). Justin and I had a blast and we stayed in touch from that day on.

Getting back to the ministry, Matina & Jon had a calling from God to move to Washington D.C. to spread the word and help others. This couple is absolutely amazing. I have never heard them say one bad thing about another person. They are so positive and great to be around. (She knits too!) They have traveled to India and I believe Africa too to help children and families in need. I know they will do great in their new ventures. Matina sings and is an excellent pianist (she is a piano teacher). Last night Justin and I went to her Farewell Concert/Party. Half of the audience was in tears for most of the show from hearing her beautiful voice and recognizing how much they are going to miss her. I will miss both of them a lot. Matina is one of the first friends I made in Oregon. I am grateful for our friendship and I look forward to keeping in touch and hearing about her amazing journeys.
You can hear her music here

Flashback Friday!

Since we had a 95 degree day, I thought I would share photos from December '08. The second photo was taken from inside our garage.
We had a record snow storm and my car was buried like this for 2 weeks. I took the train to work and would walk a mile and a half in the snow (both ways up hill, just kidding) to work. I think I can appreciate having some sunshine after that experience. Hope everyone has a great weekend xoxo.

We be Jammin'

I am so excited about this. Andrea taught Hallie & I how to make our own freezer jam. Between the two of us we made 96 oz of blackberry jam in less than an hour. I was so surprised at how easy it was. I cannot wait to eat it tomorrow. I am going berry picking again on Saturday. I want to make raspberry jam next. Woo hoo!
